Actually the knobs are set up as part of a style (which is a group of
patterns analgous to a song), the RM1x has 50 styles. I wouldn't hold my
breath for a ROM update, Yamaha's philosophy seems to be "fix it in the next
model". All the same, every piece of stuff I own has its quirks and the only
one that's ever been consistently fixed and improved is the Access Virus.
Yamaha are moving to flash updateable operating systems with their new
samplers and I would expect everything else to follow suit. No matter how
you slice it there really isn't much competition for the RM1x, and I am very
happy with mine.
