It's true that 16 MIDI channels won't spread very far between 7 devices, but
it's also true that you probably won't use 16 MIDI channels in one song -
SO, a nice way to redistribute the channels dynamically would be to get a
midipatchbay. That way you could program a preset for each song with the 16
midi channels distributed as needed. The two that I know of are the Digital
Music MX-8 and the Peavey MIDImaster 2 (I think a local store has one cheap
- check http://www.savedbytech.com check Peavey's site for the manual to see
if it will do what you want first, I'm just going by memory here), and I
Think MOTU makes an interface that you can program presets into as well.
