Hi,
maybe it's time now to look at the features we want for 0.9.5 and hammer
out which stuff needs to be done.
This has been done already:
- We're using QtXml now instead of tinyXml
- Better support for OSX
Now we have to think about wolkes branch and if we pick single features
out of this branch or merge the whole branch at once.
In a previous ( private ) mail to him, i mentioned that i would prefer
it to pick single features out of this branch and merge them one after
another.
At this time, it was not clear if all features of the branch are useful
or if they will be accepted by the community. In the last months we
received a lot of positive feedback (esp. at the forum)
and i think now that most of the features of the fx-branch should go to
trunk. The only feature i'm not really convinced of is the
"advanced-midi-recording", but maybe it needs just a better integration.
Apart from wolke's features, there are some other interesting things for
0.9.5.
Here's a quick list:
- better support for midi controller, extend gui elements so that they
are able to react on midi events ( and vice versa[req. midi out first..])
- make it possible to customize key bindings (maybe based on the work
done for the midi support)
- improve the preferences dialog ( sounddrivers shouldn't be restarted
every time, even if there were no changes at all..)
- fix some long known bugs, for example the problem that hydrogen
exports a song not correctly ( cut off a beat to early)
- undo ?
- select some demo patterns which will be shipped with hydrogen. maybe
extend the drumkit format and include demo patterns in h2drumkit-files?
- think about how we can handle the problem of playing a song with
different drumkits ( what happens if the snare is on note 36 in one
drumkit and 37 in the other? how we can improve this? "tag" the
instrument? different "maps" ?
- better integration of online help ( maybe add "help" buttons to some
areas which point to the manual, like a
"how-can-i-build-a-multilayered-drumkit"-button in the load-layer dialog.
Just some ideas :) Everybody is inveted to add more... But maybe we
should work on a smaller set of features for 0.9.5 so that we could
focus on a shorter release-cycle.
- Sebastian
