There is always the problem of kits containing combinations not defined 
by the spec, e.g, a kit with three different snares, but that seems to 
me to be what the undefined notes (<35 or >81) are for.

That's not to say H2 shouldn't have a "remap" function, but I think kits 
ought to at least start with the defined note<->instrument mappings.
