If font merging is implemented that isn't needed. The problem of creating a font is that there aren't free tools available that can generate good quality fonts; and even with the tools I suspect there aren"t the artistic qualities needed to design a goodfont (much less a font covering various scripts). Making a single font covering most of unicode is not a good thing to do imho; all tentatives to do so have failed, they are all incomplete and have glyph problems. Better is to allow font merging at the Xft level; and maybe a way to have per-user Xft config files to define user specific aliases (that is font merging done with the font priority specified by the user). Then font creation would be needed only to fill the holes. There are already freely distributable TTF fonts for Japanese and Korean for example; but none for cyrillic (even for basic Russian). -- Ki a vos vye bn, Pablo Saratxaga http://www.srtxg.easynet.be/ PGP Key available, key ID: 0x8F0E4975 _______________________________________________ I18n mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/i18n
