I try to setup Xfree86 4.3.0 for use with both us_intl and Russian keyboards.
Currently I use ATLLinux Master 2.2 with updates from Sisyphus and with KOI8-R locale, but I'm investigating the possibiilty to fully switch to ru_RU.UTF-8.
First of all I tried to install us_intl only ("us_intl" and"grp:lwin_switch" in appropriate places). It worked, but in KDE applications I don't seeany special characters, like . I see "e" instead.
But it worked under Gnome 2.4 apps (gedit, for example).
But if I try to add a Russian keyboard, I get the plain vanilla US instead. Only the trivial "us,ru" ",winkeys" "grp:lwin_toggle" works.
I work with Russian and primarily French and Portugese, so I really need to input extended Latin characters among with Russian.
I tried different combinations like "us,fr,ru". French keyboard works, but without any dead key. I.e. I can type "", because it's located directly on the keyboard, but not "" or "" because they use dead keys. And I can't get AltGr mode working to access the extra characters. I tried to add grp:menu_switch, but it seems not to work. And of course use French AZERTY layout with a QWERTY physical keyboard is less then optimal.
What can I do to configure the keyboard the way I like it?
Ciao,
Vladimir
