How Some Mobile Detailers are Profiting from Bad Weather

For some detailers bad weather is another opportunity. While their competitors
call the day off they are collecting profits other auto detailers have over
looked. How are they doing it? They are selling a product that is used,
appreciated and sought after especially in bad weather: windshield wipers.

During the rainy seasons and rough winters your customers on the road are using
their wipers more ever. Take advantage of this time to supply windshield wipers
to your existing clients, boost profits per car and make money on bad weather
days

How to Profit from Bad Weather

Find a local gas station with great vehicle traffic. Speak with the owner and
create an arrangement to setup shop on rainy days. During the rain you can
offer to replace windshield wipers, on the spot and in under 3 minutes. Some
detailers have had success creating arrangements with the gas station owner to
offer reciprocal discounts. One program is for the customer to receive a
discounted car wash when purchasing a set of wiper blades.

Car magnets and outdoor signage – During the rain or snow most customers are
less inclined to receive regular details. While this may be the case they are
more inclined to shop for a replacement set of wiper blades. There is not a lot
of motivation from someone to make a special trip to replace their wiper
blades. This sale will be made on convenience and placement. Use outdoor
advertising such as car magnets and outdoor signage to attract passing traffic.

Depending on your supplier and your margins one technique that has worked for a
few people is to offer the profit on the wiper blade as a discount for a later
detail service. For example if your profit is $10 per set of wiper blades you
might be inclined to offer a $10 off a detail coupon to your customers.

Bad weather is the largest impediment to the Mobile Detailer. Take advantage of
add-on opportunities that allow you to extend the number of working days you
have per year.
