A few minutes ago I glimpsed a hawk jumping around behind the dried
coneflowers, etc in the backyard. It was an immature Cooper's Hawk that
within a few minutes rocketed out from behind the plants in pursuit of a
small screaming bird that was going too fast to identify. The hawk looked
just like the underside ID pictures in the books as it rocked from side to
side heading past the porch. Do not know the result of the chase. There have
been a number of white-throated sparrows and juncos on the ground for
several days.
