James Huntington and I birded the Cone Marsh (Louisa County) area Sunday. Some
sightings:

--13 species of waterfowl (3 geese/10 duck). Overall waterfowl numbers continue
to go down. There was 1 Ross's Goose with the few remaining Snow Geese
--Northern Bobwhite -- seen on Atwood in Johnson County, NW of Cone Marsh
--6 species of shorebirds, including 2 American Golden Plovers
--3 Bonaparte's Gulls
--American Pipits
--continuing Loggerhead Shrike
--American Tree Sparrows
--Chipping Sparrow in Iowa City
--15 Rusty Blackbirds

We had another Loggerhead Shrike in Johnson County, in the field NW of the
intersection of Johnson/Muscatine & 500th.

The 2 Great Horned Owl nests in the area (at Cone Marsh and north of Cone
Marsh) both had one owlet visible.

We found one flock of about 50 longspurs, which remained too far away to ID.
