We had an outing to bird the Rathbun area aon this cold ,windy day.
Highlights were 14 species of shorebirds with both Godwits at Dean. Also
seen were American Golden Plover,Green HeronYellow-billed Cuckoo, Eastern
Wood Peewee. Olive-sided and Acadian Flycatcher, Mockingbird, and both
Tanagers. As a aside my wife was visting her mother who lives 7 miles north
of Fort Dodge along the Des Moines River. They had 8 N.Orioles at one time
along with a Summer Tanager . She has had Scarlet Tanager and Blue Grosbeak
in the past. She is almost 96 and I think it is about time I gifted her a
membership to IOU for her contribution to my Webster county list. Notable
misses here at Rathbun were no Ring-billed Gull, few warblers, and only 6
Sparrow species. Birders were Mike and Vicky Stephenas, Leo S. , Paul Egland
and Tom J. Ray Cummins went to Texas instead of helping us and Dan T. moved
ot Kansas City and he better find some good birds for us down there.
