Birders

At Cedar Lake this afternoon there were ten species of waterfowl, including Am.
Black Duck, No. Shoveler, Lesser Scaup and a Bufflehead. Coot and Pied-billed
Grebe were also present.

At 6:45 this evening, a lone Am. Woodcock was "peenting" at Squaw Creek Park,
along the main road ~ 100 yards east of the 25 mph. sign. Perhaps a new
arrival, the bird never went airborne while I was there. This is the earliest
I've found them, but I generally begin searching around the Ides.

All of the excavating and earth moving between the lodges will
no doubt impact the numbers of birds this season ( I've had up to nine in an
evening in this area ). By the way, this job is part of a wetland project,
and although it looks grim right now, the final result will hopefully enhance
wildlife at Squaw Creek.
