This must be my year to find GHowl nests. After checking on the nest in Arbor
Lake in Grinnell and seeing at least one owlet I went out to Jacob Krumm
area to see if the GHowls were still hanging out in the area where I first them
a couple of weeks ago.I saw one adult on a trr branch about 30-40 ft from the
road. As I continued walking along the road I saw a owl flapping its wings in a
hollowed out part remaining of a tree trunk. I realized that it was an GHowl
chick and so I went back further away on the road to watch from a safer
distance since the nest was only about 12-15 ft up right off the road. I was
able to confirm that there were 2 chicks. It was exciting to get such a good
view of these owlets as the one in Arbor lake is further off the path. What
also surprised me is I walk on the road right by the nest 2 to 3 times a week
and this is the 1st time I discovered the nest even thou by the adults behavior
I thought it was possible a nest was
 in the area.
