Even after a couple inches of rain recently, conditions at the south end
of Union Slough NWR looks really good for shorebirds. This evening,
however, there was actually more habitat than there were birds:
<100 Pectoral Sandpipers
dozens of Lesser Yellowlegs
a sprinkling of peeps
single Dunlin and Semipalmated Sands
NO plovers- that was a disappointment!
With work done on the outflow of the south end last year, water levels
should be easier to control now, so I'm looking for better conditions
through the rest of the spring migration. (Jinx!)
