Today I got out on the refuge a bit. The most common sparrow I saw in several flocks was HARRIS' SPARROW--at least 16 of them in three flocks. Other sparrows included a FIELD SPARROW, a few WHITE-CROWNED, and FOX SPARROWS. A few SAVANNA SPARROWS were flushed from the fields I walked searching unsuccessfully for Smith's longspurs. I also saw three NORTHERN HARRIERS and a NORTHERN FLICKER with red shafts (didn't see the facial markings as it flew).
