Lee Schoenewe and I birded around Big Spirit Lake, Diamond Lake and Silver Lake in Dickinson County this afternoon (joined by Ed Thelen for a short period). Tried to find the Townsend’s Solitaire that Ric Zarwell located at Marble Beach yesterday, but no luck. However, we ended up finding about 7 or 8 Horned Grebes, about 6 Common Loons, 1 Northern Shrike, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch, 1 Golden-crowned kinglet, 40 +/- Lapland Longspurs (imitating shorebirds low over the water at Diamond Lake), 6 Snow Buntings at Buffalo Run access on Big Spirit Lake, a number of Purple Finches at Marble Beach Park and (treat of the day) 9 White-winged Crossbills at the Lake Park Cemetery.
