The Armstrong's and I also visited Green Island Sunday evening. It was my
first time there and I was impressed. We had the same mix of birds as Diana
and team, minus the Cattle Egret. On the plus side, we had four Trumpeter
Swans, a Mute Swan, and an American Bittern. All these were along the same
road as the Common Gallinules.

Subject: [ia-bird] Green Island Sunday

On Sunday, Jason McCurdy, James Huntington and I explored Green Island in
Jackson County.

Highlights were COMMON GALLINULES and one CATTLE EGRET. The Gallinules were
found on the east side of the second gravel road (a dead end road) that goes
north off of Green Island Rd. The Cattle Egret was seen in a tree near the
main parking lot along Green Island Rd. Also near that parking lot were 7
shorebird species.

Great Blue Herons and Great Egrets were numerous. A Northern Harrier was
hunting in the area.

We had no luck with Least Bitterns, which we had hoped to see.
