Windows XP, even Professional is cheaper than z/OS.
IMHO kids are not prepared for TCO. It is enough to tell them mainframe is good solution for companies like banking, telecoms, etc.
A Ferrari to freight train is good comparison: first is good to 20 yo man with his girlfriend the second is much more efficient when transporting data.
BTW: Sometimes I think that mainframes are good ONLY for companies which have no choice (because of existing situation, application , etc). When the choice is available, the mainframe is never chosen. Reasons are obvious and discussed many times. This time will be next never-ending thread. <VBG>

NO! NO! Arrrrghhhh! Not another propogation of the myth of the 'expensive mainframe'.
You're turning them off even before they are old enough to consider a career!!!
The TCO argument is why we have so many outsourcing deals!!
The cost per seat for a mid-large company still wins on the mainframe side. Scalability, I/O-Bandwidth, and RAS are still head and shoulders above the web-weenie and PFCSK crowd!
