Well perhaps, although I am not sure even that is true. I am
fairly sure its not true of our customers but there are bound
to be exceptions. 

In any case, "maintenance" implies an existing product version.
I have no dispute with the idea of keeping existing products 
compatible with whatever level of system they were originally 
designed for, but I wouldn't give their "needs" a moment's
consideration when designing new software. I have no sympathy
for back level systems. IMO its not worth the effort.
