We IPL once a month, mainly to give us a window for applying ISV software maintenance.
We still have users who complain that "the system is always down." Such things will always be, especially since computer and communications systems are so complex and multi-layered these days; all it takes is for a router to burp, a cable end to go bad, or a Windows session to lock up for "the system" to be down. (That still doesn't excuse the users who call in saying "the system is down" when what they actually mean is "I can't remember my password.") For that matter, we had a doctor tell one of the board members that our system is antiquated and useless. When the CIO found out the physician's name and asked him what parts of it needed work, the doctor said he had never actually signed onto anything and used it.
