Dave, Your reply is wrong on so many levels that I don't know where to start. It is obvious to me that the topic of this thread *is not clear to you.*
In the case of an ABEND or CICS "close immediate" situation, what information would you like Mark to write to the file? And where is this information supposed to come from? Remember, we are only talking about VSAM statistics for datasets that were not closed *normally*. For normal closures, the statistics are just fine. To use your words, "the lousy disclaimer" has been known to me since I first learned about VSAM. Ron Ferguson has traveled around the world for a few decades now telling all who will listen these two major points: 1) Statistics garnered from listcats of open VSAM datasets are invalid 2) Statistics garnered from listcats of VSAM datasets that were not closed properly are also invalid Your final comments about SMF and RMF are pure nonsense.
