Hello: According to the documentation, (z/OS DFSMS Access Method Services
for Catalogs Publication No. SC26-7394-03) "Access method services
identifies the verb name ALLOCATE and attaches the terminal monitor
program
(TMP) that runs Time Sharing Option (TSO) commands in the background."
Is there any case where this is not done? In other words, can the
ALLOCATE command sucessfully allocate a data set without invoking the
use of the TMP/TSO?
No - what the book says, is what it does....
Thanks,

OK, how about SVC 99 interfaces, the REXX BPXWDYN service,
and the related Assembler callable services? Do all of them
use TMP under the covers? I would find that hard to beleive,
but not impossible.
Kind regards,
