IBM-MAIN certainly provides lots of opinions on how to get things done -
some right, some wrong, some overly complex, some exceedingly simple.
The point I was making is that IBM does not "ignore" how-to-do questions,
but there's a specific queue designed to open PMRs and address those
questions.
Quite an expensive option. We pay for on-line support (ETRs), but not
for the very expensive premium support option that allows you to ask
"how to" questions. Of course, RTFM and experimentation is still the
best way to learn. But, sometimes more is needed. That's where IBM-MAIN
fits in. The price is certainly right.
The people supporting it are good and they know the answers to
a lot of the things that are asked on IBM-MAIN. They WILL point you to the
right manual, and they WILL help you understand what it says. They can
give you solutions that meet your needs - without all the opinions,
sniping, and arguments.
That last sentence is the most attractive part of all. IBM-MAIN is like
a mine field. You have to know who to trust.
