Everybody decides this for themselves.
Due to bad experience, I tend to be a bit generous.
When I arrived, this customer had an abysmal paging configuration. CICS
dumps would stop the system.
I mean stop it dead.
Everything was underconfigured - memory, paths, AUX, the lot ...

I convinced them the "cost" of a decent paging configuration was well worth
it.

On newer kit, may be less of an issue - however I still have (smallish)
LPARs that
require more than 10 full mod-3's as page space just in normal running. A
couple of big dumps can
still have an effect - especially when DB2 and SAP R3 get together.
Then of course DB2 V8 is on the horizon ...
