STP replaces the Sysplex Timer hardware. Its job is to synchronize the TOD clocks across loosely-coupled processors. It is so precise, it can (in the initial release) perform this function at distances of up to 100 km. This TOD clock synchronization function is _completely separate_ from that of obtaining a UTC time reference from NIST or other "official" source. _ This message and any attachments are intended only for the use of the addressee and may contain information that is privileged and confidential.
