Quite right! STP replaces the Sysplex Timer hardware. Its job is to 
synchronize the TOD clocks across loosely-coupled processors. It is so 
precise, it can (in the initial release) perform this function at 
distances of up to 100 km. This TOD clock synchronization function is 
_completely separate_ from that of obtaining a UTC time reference from 
NIST or other "official" source.
