CMC Host or Communications Management Configuration Host, refers to a subarea VTAM that owns NCPs and has session establishment and error recovery responsibility for one or more data host.
This is how we used the term. We had one agency (the CMC) which was supposed to act has the central "hub" for the other agencies (data hosts). We had SNI or subarea connections thru 3745s and NCPs. The CMC's VTAM would "own" the SNA devices. The CMC would have a session manager which provided a menu of applications available at the CMC and data hosts. The user would select an application from the menu and be routed to the appropriate host which ran that application. Now the 3745s are being replaced with some form of APPN, e.g. Enterprise Extender, Channel-to-channel adaptors, or Communications Server for Linux. So I guess the answer to your question is yes, TCP/IP is supported with a CMC. I believe the is a redbook or replacing 3745s. Hope this helps and I'm not too far off base, Craig -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ted MacNEIL Sent: Thursday, August 04, 2005 8:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: TCP/IP and CMC? >connect multiple "systems" together, for example with Enterprise Extender to replace subarea connections. All the tn3270 sessions can point to one "system" which is the "central" manager. Then the user may request an application which exists on one of the other systems and be routed appropriately. Am I close? ... I have no idea! If I knew the answers, I wouldn't be asking the question. I have found nobody willing to answer it. (8-{[} -teD In God we Trust! All others bring data! -- W.
