I tried using a PDSE as my ISPPROF, just last week. ISPF refused to initiate -- my PROFILE was 'improperly formated'. z/OS 1.4 and the associated ISPF. -teD -- snip -- z/OS 1.4 (also 1.6), ISPPROF as PDSE with PDSESHARING(EXTENDED) works fine here.
