I have seen a lot of discussion about how "far away" was "far enough" but
none have advocated DR on another continent yet.
We shouldn't forget about nuclear conflict possibility, planet Earth is

But seriously what sense is to continue data processing for customer
base which suffer from disaster. Is it important that HR system in
public transportation of New Orlean is out of service ?
In this case it is important to have good (and recent) backup copies to
restore, or - to have datacenter which is not under water level. In this
case the only thing to do is to wait for electrical power restore as
well telecomm. lines.
