They aren't going away. They're becoming more numerous with each new release of the operating system! That's what makes the "do not use" edict so laughable. With z/OS 1.7, even JES2 is now delivering modules in a PDSE via the SYS1.SHASLNKE data set! The times they are a-changin'...
