He's right, it's not. Strictly speaking, Linux is the kernel (think IEANUC01), and nothing else. That's one of the reasons Richard Stallman thinks it should be called "GNU/Linux" because many of the other things that make up an operating system were originally developed by the Free Software Foundation. Of course, that would be cumberson and also slight all the non-FSF projects out there that contribute to the OS, so few non-Debian users do that.
