Yes, they do. Hence my request for FTP. The DVD install of 9.2 back in November 
of 2008 left a lot to be desired. And I am being kind. Even SAS Technical 
Support agreed with me at the time. I cannot speak about the quality of it at 
present, but I would hope that twenty months is enough time to fix a bad 
process.

Just to make sure we are clear, Dan, that FTP can be directly to the mainframe, 
right? Once I finally succeeded in getting all the files to z/OS, the install 
went smoothly.

OK, thanks to all you replied.  I'm getting the idea that everyone has
DFDSS, FDR, or both.

I never did say why I was asking.  In SAS 9.2, we already support z/OS
software distribution via FTP, but there are a significant number of
customers for whom FTP is not an acceptable option. So we're revisiting our
tape installation process and considering options to improve that as well as
support FTP.
