I don't know the documentation, but I can assure you that it's possible.
I see it everyday: multiple sysplexes with the same name. Like the
following:
LPAR A1 system SYS1 sysplex PLEX1
LPAR A2 system SYS1 sysplex PLEX1
the systems are not connected to each other.
