It's becoming history now, however in the past IMHO a lot of shops did
it. I can't speak for others, but I didn't noticed any problem.
One comment: the only OS/390 version which can run on z/990 and z/890 is
V2R10. Even V2R10 required a lot of patching (PTFs, new FMIDs, PTFs
for these FMIDs).
