I just got back from a COMA (Computer Operations Management Association) meeting. I thought it interesting that two other companies from the Milwaukee area were also getting rid of their mainframes. One in September, and one in an indefinite period of time. I won't name names as I don't know if they would want me to.
As many of you know, my job is going away in about 3 months. Our conversion to our sister company's data center who runs SAP/R3 on an AIX platform is about 1 month from now. There was also some good news from mainframe users. One company was upgrading their CPU and dasd. Another said they had all kinds of programmer jobs open for the mainframe.
