Gee I wonder, hypothetically: if all companies did allow

Tele-freedom would certainly smooth out the geographic supply/demand

imbalance (and I'm speculating that imbalance does exist, without
knowing).

Interesting idea. Not sure if I agree if it works out most of
the time or not. I was at one place and we had one of the
sysprogs did telecommuting. The person would show up once a
month or so. It was not clear to me what she did. I think she
installed one package .. some ISPF application IIRC .

I think that some types of sysprog duties have to be hands
on. Not all mind you but some.

Name one.

For example trying to deduce what is going on when a system is in a wait state. Another example is attending a meeting that is unorganized and trying to get something accomplished. There is also the case where you get called from operations and they start asking you questions that are less than clear and they need an answer now.

I have wondered about the
perceived benefits myself. The case above the person worked
out of their house in Chicago area. So the once a month (or
so) appearance wasn't a big thing but when it comes to say
Washington dc/metro area to texas its a whole different story, IMO.

OK, terminal response times might be elongated a second or so. What's
the BFD?
