I asked a similar question to an IBM sales rep at a z990 promotion meeting in the fall last year in Washington DC, with the added twist of where are the _current_ sysprogs are going to get jobs if mainframe datacenters keep closing down. (And I was sitting next to a sysprog manager whose organization was in the middle of an end-the-mainframe program.) I didn't get much of an answer from the rep. (sigh) Now I'm doing VMware....
