Jim, To be fair to the SDSF guys, you can browse all spool output using the ISPF interfaces if you so wish - use the "SB" and "SE" line commands against the output that you require.
The historical reason for SDSF having a non-ISPF "Find" command is that it is a dynamic area application and you have to roll your own FIND and SCROLL routines - SDSF also runs without ISPF (ie from the READY prompt).
