Big advantage, no more emulated IO. More availability to external devices (more CHP). The base MP3000 I worked with only had 2 ESCON CHPs. Being able to run supported operating systems. MP 3000 was a nice machine for a small development community, but 64 bit architecture has made the MP 3000 obsolete. Did I say no more emulated IO.
