>But, even some support technicians at IBM are afraid of reading dumps.
Exactly. I am just glad someone else experiences the same thing - misery loves company. (You just don't complain as much as I do!) >Recently, I've started saying things like, "I'm sorry. The information >you've asked for is no longer available on my system. You'll just have >to solve this problem the 'old fashioned' way -- by analyzing the dump!" Good phrase. I'll remember that! With the way IBM pressures their level1/2, they are reduced to going down a checklist and ask for documentation, no matter if it has any bearing on the problem or not. If they don't and the next level then asks for it when it was not provided in the first place, they get the reprimand. Not an easy situation for them, teaches them not to use their own heads anymore, just follow procedure. >Jim is a GREAT dump reader and he's helped me unravel problems untold >times over the years. But I suspect Nadine is actually an alien because >she is just freakishly good at dump reading. Agreed to all of the above. Plus, Nadine can read two or four dumps at the same time (including the source) and still keep track of the individual problems. Absolutely amazing. >let's see, I opened it on January 15th. You do the math. Unlike >that RMM situation, I am not down ... merely inconvenienced. >Coincidentally, just today I decided "enough is enough" and I plan to >begin placing direct phone calls to the support person in Poughkeepsie. >(I'd much rather talk to them directly and give them the option of >getting their act together before I start escalating things. Common >courtesy.) For most components, the threat of a complaint is enough to get them working. But try it for Domino! Doesn't speed things up. All in all, I try not to use my former contacts unless I really don't trust the official analysis. Regards, Barbara -- Echte DSL-Flatrate dauerhaft für 0,- Euro*!
