I seem to recall Amdahl got "caught short" when they (finally) announced the OSA. Just about the time IBM announced OSA-2. Don't know if Amdahl ever progressed the support, but I'd not be too surprised if they just decided it was all too hard that late in the game, and never did any more with it.
