Well, there are plenty of 64-bit platforms around. IBM is merely the only supplier of 64-bit IBM mainframe platforms. The monopoly aspect could start quite soon. What happens when 31-bit versions of software such as DB2 drop out of maintenance or a majority of ISVs develop 64-bit only? Platform Solutions would like to claim 64-bit capability, but I'm not sure it's shipped yet or that it ever will. Fundamental has 64-bit capability but it's never been available for commercial users and will be replaced for development purposes by IBM's new development platform (see the Devil's Dictionary definition of NDA) in 1Q07. -- Phil Payne http://www.isham-research.co.uk +44 7833 654 800 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
