The consent decree itself expired several years ago, but the underlying legal principles that created it are still there. There is a lot of money in the mainframe business and IBM must act with careful thought before putting it at risk. If that means a bit of parnoia, that's ok with me.

Something else to keep in mind: AFAIK, IBM is the ONLY mainframe vendor with 64-bit capabilities. Eventually, the other vendors who don't follow ar going to drop out of sight, leaving IBM with what amounts to a monopoly on large z/OS-like systems. Food for thought? YOU BET!!!
