Do you have multiple systems, each with their own master catalog? If
so, then it's possible that the VVDS was defined on a different system
than the one from which you are trying to locate the VVDS.

Subject: VVDS datasets not cataloged

Standard procedure at my shop when initializing a volume is to run an
IDCAMS define of the VVDS as the last step.

After running this step I went to 3.4 and did a list of all the
SYS1.VVDS datasets. This list showed about 40 VVDS names. I'm sure we
have several hundred volumes with VSAM / VVDS data sets on them. VHAW157
did not show up. After further review I tried the whole name and it DID
show up on 3.4 (no volser used). BUT, from that list I do an LC which
does a listcat and it says NOT FOUND. And further more, it appears that
anything but the full SYS1.VVDS.VHAW157 from 3.4 returns a 'no data sets
names found'. I'm guessing its 'the nature of the beast' that I don't
have a good grasp of. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

After some time, files were allocated.
