Is the STDENV DD statement for any batch program, I was under the
impression that this was only for programs running under BPXBATCH.

Do you truly want to set LE runtime options? Or do you just need to set
some UNIX environment variables before invoking the Java program(s)? If
you need to set environment variables in COBOL, then simpliest way is
probably to include a

//STDENV DD *

statement and put in your "VARNAME=VALUE" pairs on separate lines. Oh,
make sure that the dataset is UNNUM or the "line numbers" will mess with
your mind <grin>.
