Because there is nothing better in anonymous post than in fake name. No one can gaurantee that Dave K. is really Dave K.
This is public forum, so we don't have any assurance who's reading the posts. No photo Id required. Private free email accounts are fully accepted.
IMHO self-identifying on the list is matter of savoir vivre, but the vigilance and suspiciouness is irrational (at least).
BTW: I recollect several names on the list which are more or less obviously fake names.
