The analyses of presumed hidden reasons for the original technical question have reminded me of two things: (1) In 1977 I asked an IBM SE "What system control block in MVS contains the seek address when the I/O is active? In MVT it used to be the UCB [or wherever]. Where is it now?" The correct answer, of course, was "IOSB". Instead he screwed up his face and answered me with "WHY do you want to know THAT?"
