Just as a thought. Could somebody write a subsystem which starts at IPL
time, does the shared GETMAIN, then (here's the rub) somehow have that
memory automatically added to every address space which starts
thereafter?

The difficulty of connecting all existing and future address spaces to a 64-bit shared memory object is one reason why many ISVs (and IBM developers) have been lobbying the z/OS developers for true CSA64 support in z/OS. Other reasons include lack of page fix/free and DREF support with existing 64-bit shared memory objects.
