What you're basically going to be missing out on is performance -
especially GRS. You may not even notice.
If you don't need plex specific function(s) enough to pay for a CF, you
won't miss anything. Datasharing/ECS/... might be nice, but you
obviously don't *need* them (enough) to make a difference.
Well, something that's not *that* obvious (and that surprised the hell out of
my collegue) is the fact that these days a *signalling structure* (is a lot
faster than a *signalling CTC*. I have been an advocat for using only the
structures for a long time, but always got shot down with the performance
concern that CTCS were faster. On the z9, we took a hard look at the numbers -
the structures are faster.
Singalling structures are needed for... for what ?
We don't know what communication will be using sysplex links, and how
big the traffic will be.
IMHO when I can't afford parallel sysplex (read: CF and links), the XCF
paths over IXC structures would be one of the last things I would miss.
The first would be GRS star. <g>
