then you might want to try creating at least one PAV alias for device X.
I guess this maybe anwsers one of my fundamental questions about PAV. There is something that needs to be configured on the machine in order to exploit PAV? The system programmer needs to set up aliases to certain devices as a tuning exersize based on bottlneck volumes etc. Unless that's been done you can't take advantage of anything? Or will z/OS dynamically decide that there's a lot of contention for that device so a couple of aliases would be a good idea. Manual tuning seems the norm on mainframes as far as I can tell, so I'd guess the former (forgive my ignorance of such things. My background is very much PC and distrubuted platforms and I'm trying to understand the possibilitied for mainframe I/O and what's involved in making use of them).
