Seriously, at some level You can be practically certain that 
the data cannot be resurrected, NSA or not NSA. 

If You melt the platters the data is gone.
If You encrypt the data with an enough long key 
it cannot be decrypted in relevant time.
If You pulverize the platters the data is gone.

Of this I'm quite certain.

The overwrite method (e g 12 times) is sufficient in most 
commercial cases.
I think.
