Contrary to popular belief, there is no reason to worry about your migration from 1.4 to 1.9. I have performed that particular upgrade 3 times in just the past 2 months (1 university and two utilities), and to 1.8 before that several times with no problems. There were some comments earlier about not being able to share a MAS, (which is not exactly true), but you should remember that NJE works fine and you are converting, not establishing a long-term bi-OS production environment (at least I hope not). Most non-IBM software that runs on 1.4 should have no problems at 1.8 or 1.9 that they don't already have at those same software levels on 1.4:).
If you have any detail questions that I can help you with, such as specific product mixes, feel free to contact me off list, but there are no real show-stopping issues, provided that you think things through. There are some pretty stupid things that I have seen sites try to do during the migration that no "normal" person would want to try, but other than that, most of the conversions that I have participated in, (and I have taken part in well over 100), have performed flawlessly.
